Can I Accept PayPal Payments Through My Leadpage?

We don’t have an official integration with PayPal, but there are a few ways you can use PayPal with your pages.

Create a PayPal button

To collect payments, you’ll need a “Buy Now” button from PayPal. You can learn how to create one in their guide here: Create a Buy Now Button

NOTE: For best results, we recommend skipping this step of PayPal’s guide. Adding custom product options can affect how compatible your button is with Leadpages.

Add your button to a page

Once you’ve create a “buy now” button, it’s time to add it to your page. Note that the process will differ depending on which builder you use. You can find instructions for both types of pages below. 

Drag & Drop Builder

To add your button to a Drag & Drop Leadpage or Leadbox, follow these steps:

  1. Copy your button’s HTML code according to PayPal’s guide here: Copy and paste button code.
  2. Add an HTML widget to your page or Leadbox, then paste in the code from PayPal. Make sure to save the HTML before you publish or update your page. 

It’s a good idea to test your button out. One way to do so is to use your button as a customer would, then issue yourself a refund from within PayPal.

Standard Builder

Our Standard Builder doesn’t provide the option to add custom HTML, so it isn’t possible to add your button’s code directly. Instead, you can use PayPal’s email link, which provides a plain URL leading to your checkout form. Here’s how:

  1. Copy an email link for your button following the steps here: Copy and paste the Email payment link.
  2. Open the link settings for a call-to-action button or link on your page. More info…
  3. Paste in the email link from PayPal, then save your page. 
WARNING: Make sure you do not paste HTML code into a link’s URL field. Doing so can cause your page to break or malfunction. 

Track purchases

Our built-in analytics aren’t designed to track conversions on third-party buttons like those from PayPal. However, there are a few workarounds you can consider using to track how many people purchase your product. 

One option is to use a third-party analytics platform. Many popular options allow you to track custom events on pages. Please note, however, we cannot provide support for modifying third-party code. PayPal Auto return

Another option is to use PayPal’s auto return feature. You can configure your checkout settings to direct anyone who purchases back to your site or to a custom URL. It’s also possible to return customers to a specific URL for individual transactions.

NOTE: Configuring auto return settings is an advanced procedure. Please kindly direct any specific questions you may have about the feature to PayPal’s support center.

If you do set up auto return, you can use a custom Leadpage as a thank you/confirmation page. We recommend using a unique page for this purpose—one that you don’t use for anything else. That way, its unique views can be used to estimate how many conversions you have on your purchase page.
